Investigation report: Investigation of assisted reproductive technology (ART) providers in Queensland

This report details the findings of the investigation undertaken by the Office of the Health Ombudsman into health services delivered by ART providers in Queensland.

This investigation provided an important opportunity to independently review the quality and safety of services within a health sector that can offer significant benefits to consumers.

The investigation identified systemic issues relating to the provision of ART services, including gaps and risks in the self-regulatory regime in Queensland.

The OHO has made detailed recommendations to improve the quality and safety of ART services and to strengthen the safeguards and protections for ART consumers in Queensland.

Note: Unless otherwise specified, the term ‘ART consumers’ which is used in the report is inclusive of consumers seeking/ receiving ART treatments, donors and donor-conceived people, including donor-conceived children.
